Editorial Policy
These rules exist mostly to stop us publishing confident-sounding things that are not true.
How guides are produced
Guides are researched and drafted with AI assistance, then reviewed against this policy before they go live. Stating that plainly matters, because it sets the boundary of what we publish: reasoning that holds across models and brands is fair game, and anything that varies model to model is not.
Repetition is treated as a defect
A site that says the same thing on fifty pages is not fifty guides. Our build measures how much wording each article shares with every other article and refuses to publish when the overlap is too high, when a sentence turns up in too many guides, or when an article is too short to be worth reading.
This is enforced by the software, not by good intentions. If two symptoms genuinely need the same answer, they become one guide instead of two.
What is never invented
- Error codes and what they mean on a given model
- Reset sequences and service-mode entry
- Part numbers, resistance values and model compatibility
- Voltages, wiring colours and pin assignments
- Specific manufacturer instructions
When a guide needs any of that, it points you at your model's documentation rather than paraphrasing something unverified. Your manual knows your machine; we do not.
Also never published
- Statistics or failure rates we cannot source
- Claimed bench testing, teardowns or repair anecdotes that did not happen
- Invented authors, technicians, certifications or years in the trade
- Reviews, ratings or customer stories
Guides carry the site's name rather than a personal byline, because inventing a seasoned technician to sign them would be a lie.
Where we stop
Guides cover what an owner can reasonably do: settings, breakers, filters, hoses, vents, visual inspection, and simple access with the appliance unplugged. They never instruct you to:
- Bypass a thermal fuse, interlock, lid switch or door lock
- Work on live circuits or modify grounding
- Touch gas lines, valves or burner assemblies
- Open a sealed refrigeration system
- Go near a microwave's high-voltage section
Those are not liability reflexes. They are jobs that need equipment, training and in several states a licence, and no article substitutes for that.
Sources
Outside information is cited at the end of the guide that relies on it, with manufacturer documentation and recognised safety bodies preferred. Sources are summarised in our own words, and every link is checked before it ships.

Every guide shows when it was last updated. Errors get corrected or removed once reported: [email protected].
